According to the October 31st Wall Street Journal a new, interdisciplinary field is developing called “spiritual capital”. (1) Economists and religious scholars are jointly investigating the public effects of religion “on larger society and the economy.”

In our post-Enron world, people and corporations are searching for a reliable source of ethical, successful truths. An increasing number of corporate leaders, managers and employees are finding the Bible to be a reliable, multi-faceted source of sound business practices. Practices that are:

  • ethical … do not lie (2)
  • practical … get out of debt (3)
  • entrepreneurial … create and take risks (4)

Average people use Biblical phrases everyday without giving thought to their source:

  • Heaven help us.
  • Don’t rob Peter to pay Paul.
  • It’s hot as Hell today.
  • It’s judgment day.
  • For Christ’s sake, why did you do that?
  • You’re going to reap what you sow.
  • I feel like I’m in the lion’s den.
  • Spare the rod and spoil the child.
  • Happy “Holy”-days
  • Merry “Christ”-mas

Would increased use of Biblical principles improve your business in 2004? Christmas 2003 is a perfect time to find out. Spend some time reading and giving thought to whether increased application of God’s advice in your personal and professional life would improve next year’s outlook.

What can you read to learn ten business improving, life-changing principles? Try a brand new book titled THE PRINCPLES, co-authored by mega-church pastor Barry Cameron and myself. THE PRINCIPLES is the story of a corporate controller who turnarounds a floundering business, life and family using the principles of Activity Based Management.

Question: What spiritual capital can you gain from the advice of a prostitute, father-in-law and weight lifter?

Answer: Read THE PRINCIPLES and find out.
